Assignment 3

The goal is for your team to implement a basic visual representation for a tool that helps to address the research question you have chosen.

What do do

For this assignment we want to you implement a basic layout in P5 - this can follow the tool you have proposed on your last sketch or, if you have gotten new inspiration or useful feedback on your sketch, you can also choose another representation. Lay down the marks you want to use to represent data items or their relationships. Do not yet add interaction or color (unless important for your basic layout).

In terms of the aesthetics your visualization could look, for example like any of these representations:

In contrast to the examples above, however, your layout should be based on the dataset provided and/or a chosen reasonable subset of the data.

Submitting the Assignment

WHAT - Create a folder called "YOUR_TEAMNAME-Assignment3" and put all your files in it. Make a single ZIP file called "YOUR_TEAMNAME-Assignment3.zip" and submit it via email. It should contain:

  1. Your P5 sketch. Make sure that your code runs. We will be using Firefox to look at the visual result of your exercise.
  2. An .html file that we can open to run your sketch. On this website add
    1. A title for your sketch (what problem are you trying to solve)?
    2. Additional text to tell readers what data items you encoded and which mark and visual variables you used to encode which information.
    3. On this website also cite sources if you copied code from external sites or examples (this is fine to do - as long as the sources are acknowledged).
    4. On this website DO NOT add any personally identifyable information you do not want to be shared with others. The assignment will receive peer-feedback again so if you do not want your sketch to be identified, don't add your team name or team mambers' names. If you add this information we assume it is ok to share with others.
  3. Make sure the data file(s) you use are submitted in the data folder as explained in the P5 tutorial and that all libraries you need are also there. If we need to take any additional steps to make your sketch run, you will lose points.
  4. Also submit a screenshot of your tool of at least 1000px on the shorter side. If your sketch is bigger than your screen check out the saveCanvas() function. The screenshot should be of type .jpg and not be embedded in a pdf/docx or any other document container.

WHERE - You should email the file to petra.isenberg@inria.fr and Yujiro.Okuya@lri.fr with the subject G&V-Assignment 3.

WHEN - Assignment 3 is due before "23:00 on Tuesday April 9, 2019.'''
