I'm Mickaël SERENO, a PostDoc researcher supervised by Jean-Daniel Fekete at the AVIZ project team part of INRIA Saclay/Université Paris-Saclay. While I was previously working on scientific visualization and 3D immersive Human-Computer Interactions for my PhD, this time, my work focuses on progressive information visualizations of medical temporal event sequences.

Education

PhD at INRIA

PhD supervised by Tobias Isenberg at INRIA Saclay, team AVIZ. 2018-2021. Thesis (pptx | pdf)

Subject: Collaborative Data Exploration and Discussion Supported by Augmented Reality.

My PhD focused on collaborative scientific visualization using AR-HMDs as supports. More specifically, I was focusing at understanding and answering the challenges of AR-HMDs in the communication processes for scientific visualization scenarios.

Université Paris-Saclay

Master 2 Human Computer Interaction, 2017-2018

Double diploma at the University of Paris-Saclay, doing a master degree around Human Computer Interaction At the end, I had to make a 6-months long internship at Safran Electronics & Defense.

Polytech Paris Sud

Master of engineering in computer science, 2015-2018

I got my master of engineering in computer science during a Double diploma in 2018. During these years, I principally have done :

  1. Mathematics
  2. Algorithms
  3. Object-Oriented Programming (C++, java, etc.)
  4. Graphics
  5. Compilation theory (leaded to a project)
  6. Web Development : HTML5,CSS3,PhP, Python (Django), javascript
  7. Solving scientific problems via programs
  8. Project Management
  9. Economy and Business
  10. Company Communication

Polytech Paris Sud

Classe Préparatoire at Polytech Paris Sud, 2013-2015

Two years of studying at many scientific and professional fields, such as

  1. Mathematics
  2. Physics
  3. Chemistry
  4. Computer Science
  5. Economy
  6. Communication

Experiences

End-of-study internship at Safran Electronics & Defense

Done at Eragny-Sur-Oise, France from March 2018 to August 2018.

End of study internship. Safran Electronics & Defense is developing a library for 3D map visualization based on geographic datasets. They can visualize multi types of images mapped into a 3D ground, like satellite images, topography maps, drone video camera streams, and add 3D items to better understand the map they are visualizing.
My mission was to provide Virtual Reality functionalities into the existing library. I have to propose manipulation paradigms and resolve visualization issues that VR headsets introduce, especially the Oculus DK2 they gave me. At the end, I had to create a proof-of-concept application where users can navigate and visualize this 3D map with Safan specific information.

3-months internship at the University of Magdeburg, Department of Simulation & Graphics, Germany.

Done at Magdeburg, Germany from April 2017 to July 2017.

The internship was done under the supervision of Benjamin Köhler. I had to implement algorithms to denoise 4D PC-MRI of blood flow, in order to add this pre-process on the software B. Köhler is working on.

Freelance at INRIA (CNRS)

Freelance at INRIA, 3 months, 2016. Work published at EuroVIS. Poster, Report

From the end of my third year, I have participated at making tangible interaction at INRIA. The projects consisted at making a 3D selection of a world with tangible interactions provided by a project Tango (tablet from Google).

Intern at ISMO (CNRS)

Internship at ISMO, 1 month, summer 2015. Work published at IISC-21.

I have made my second year internship at ISMO, where my mission was to provide a solution to align a sample surface normal to its rotation axis while making an atom diffraction in an Ultra Hight Vacuum (UHV) system. Because of the mechanics, we couldn't have done it with the usual solution by hands. We had to compute the tilt angle between these two axis, and correct the angle only with rotations programmed. The solution was made with an Arduino, programmed in C/C++.
